The History of Conservation Districts & Conservation Practices in Oklahoma

August 19, 2026 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

In April 1937, after the events of the Dust Bowl, Oklahoma passed the Conservation District Enabling Act, which gave citizens the opportunity to form their own conservation districts and created the agency now known as the Oklahoma Conservation Commission. In this lecture, the speakers will talk about the events that led to the formation of the Soil Conservation Service (now known as the Natural Resources Conservation Service), the Oklahoma Conservation Commission and its conservation districts, and how they continue to serve Oklahomans today.

Speakers: Lisa Knuaf-Owen & Clancy Green, Oklahoma Conservation Commission.
