Paleo Spotlight: Our Current Research

Join us for an evening of discovery and exploration! Hear about cutting edge research from paleontologists at the Sam Noble Museum and see the specimens they study during a tour of the museum’s collection. Complete the evening with a demonstration of scientific instruments used to analyze specimens in our paleontology lab.
Cost: $25 (Member Adult or Youth) and $30 (Non-Member Adult or Youth)
This program is suited for participants ages 12+. Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
ARTxFACTS: Dating with Dinos

Come celebrate Valentine’s Day in a unique way with an evening of art and dinosaurs! Experience a behind-the-scenes tour of our vertebrate paleontology collections and learn about some of our lesser-known specimens. Then unleash your creative side as you follow along with the OU Print Club to make a dinosaur-themed print. Give your print as a valentine or keep it for yourself as a one-of-a-kind souvenir! All supplies are provided and there is no skill necessary!
Cost: $25 (Member Adult or Youth) and $30 (Non-Member Adult or Youth)

The Science of Sci-Fi

Spend an evening with paleontologists at the Sam Noble Museum discovering the science behind some of our favorite science fiction classics – Jurassic Park and Star Wars! Can you really clone a dinosaur? What were velociraptors really like? Are creatures in Star Wars based on real animals? Answer these questions and more through exclusive tours of museum collections and up-close interactions with museum specimens.

Paleo Puzzles
March 24, 2023 6-8 p.m.
Deadline to Register: March 17, 2023
Put your puzzle skills to the test and step into the shoes of a fossil preparator as you attempt to reconstruct a fossil cast. Learn the skills and techniques that professional fossil preparators use to piece fossils back together to facilitate the research, education, and exhibition of extinct animals. Participants will also get a behind-the-scenes tour of our fossil preparation laboratory and see our current projects! Can’t finish your puzzle before the end of the event? No problem! Take your project home with you!

Dinosaur Safari
April 22, 2023 9-11 a.m.

Did you know that birds are dinosaurs? Come spend a morning discovering local birds and their evolutionary history! Join Dr. Jeremy Ross of the Oklahoma Biological Survey as he leads you on a birding adventure. Dive deeper into the science of why birds are dinosaurs through a brief lecture from Dr. Ross and hands-on exploration of museum specimens.

This program is suited for ages 14+. Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Paleontology: Under the Microscope
May 19, 2023 6-8 p.m.

Join us after hours for an up-close look at some of our smallest fossil specimens at the museum. Experience a behind-the-scenes look of our paleontology collections and lab! Then try your hand at finding and identifying microscopic fossils using the same equipment and tools scientists use.
Cost: $25 (Member Adult or Youth) and $30 (Non-Member Adult or Youth)
This program is suited for ages 14+. Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Registration
REGISTRATION OPENS FEBRUARY 1, 2023!
Advance registration is required, and space is limited. On-site registration is not available for these programs.
Due to capacity limits, only individuals who have registered for the program will be allowed to attend. Unregistered minors or adults will not be allowed to attend the program, ages 0 and up.
Participants are required to bring any forms sent via confirmation email (releases, waivers, etc.) on or before the first day of the program.
All cancellations must be received 10 business days prior to the start of the program for a refund or transfer to another program.
General admission before or after the program is not included in the program price.
Adult programs are available to participants 18 years and older.
Adult/Family programs are available to participants 12 years and older. Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Family programs are available to participants 5 year and older.
