With over 5 million artifacts spanning 11,000 years, the archaeology collection at the Sam Noble Museum is the largest in Oklahoma. Among the collection’s most notable artifacts is the Cooper Bison Skull, one of the oldest painted objects in North America at roughly 10-11,000 years old. We also house an extensive collection of artifacts from Spiro Mounds—Oklahoma’s most famous archaeological site. Apart from our core collection of material from Oklahoma, we also have smaller collections from the American Southwest, Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, Ecuador and Japan.
