Abstract: The Miami Language Program Collection consists of books, audio recordings and ephemera for learning and understanding the Myaamia (Miami) language.
Acquisition Information: These records came to the Sam Noble Museum courtesy of Daryl Baldwin as three separate deposits, with the first occurring in 2010 and subsequent deposits occurring in 2012 and 2013.

Collection Scope and Contents: The Miami Language Program Collection consists of print and audio materials produced by the Myaamia tribe and are aimed at providing practical and useful language learning to users of all ages. In addition to audio and print-based language lessons, highlights of the collection include:
- Dice, bingo and other game activities for vocabulary building
- A calendar that details common terms associated with the Myaamia lunar calendar and illustrates information about lunar cycles, the lunar year, ecological events and how to learn Myaamia on an iPhone
- Original narratives and winter stories by Frank Beaver, George Finley, Gabriel Godfroy, Sarah Jane Cass Keiser, William Pecongah, Thomas Richardville, William Skye, Nancy Stand, Elizabeth Vallier, Sarah Wadsworth and other (unknown) storytellers
The collection was established in 2010 by Daryl Baldwin, a member of the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma and head of the Myaamia Center at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Baldwin is a revivalist of Miami, who taught himself the language through documents housed at the Smithsonian’s National Anthropological Archives, and then raised his four children as native Myaamia speakers. Outside the home he has developed educational programs and has been involved with the Breath of Life, Silent No More workshops that focus on reviving endangered languages.
