Retired herpetology curators Janalee Caldwell, Ph.D. and Laurie Vitt, Ph.D. received a grant in 2006 from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation to evaluate the herpetological community at a variety of Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) around the state of Oklahoma. The goals of the project were to 1) identify the fauna, 2) access relative abundance of species, 3) collect tissues and voucher specimens, 4) collect relevant ecological data and 5) develop a web site available to the world providing digital access to the herpetofauna of the WMAs. This project was funded through 2010, although similar ongoing Oklahoma herpetofauna surveys are still being conducted at other WMAs, under the supervision of current herpetology curator Cameron Siler, Ph.D. Click here to access to the summaries of research from five WMAs.
