The Koasati, or Coushatta, language is a member of the Muskogean language family. The tribal name is spelled Quassarte in Oklahoma. Koasati is closely related to the Alabama language, but the languages are not mutually intelligible. Other related languages include Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek, Hichiti, and Mikasuki.
