What is ExplorOlogy® Paleo Expedition?
ExplorOlogy® Paleo Expedition is a free, all expenses-paid, week-long, hands-on paleontology field experience led by scientists and educators from the University of Oklahoma for Oklahoma high school students currently enrolled in grades 9, 10 or 11. Space is limited, and the application process is competitive.

Who: Oklahoma resident students with a passion for science and paleontology entering grades 10, 11 or 12. (Participants must be at least 14 years old and cannot turn 18 years old before the end of the program.)
What: An immersive adventure in paleontology led by University of Oklahoma’s Sam Noble Museum scientists and educators. Students will learn about the science of paleontology and career opportunities through hands-on experiences at the museum and in the field.
When: July 24, 2026 – August 2, 2026
Where: Travel to paleontology and geology field sites in Colorado. The adventure will begin and end at the Sam Noble Museum in Norman, Oklahoma.
Cost: There is no cost to participants. ExplorOlogy® Paleo Expedition is generously funded by the Whitten-Newman Foundation.

ExplorOlogy® was created in 2007 as a joint effort by the Sam Noble Museum and the Whitten-Newman Foundation to introduce young people in Oklahoma to science. In the first five years, more than 50,000 school children experienced field-based research. Funding for ExplorOlogy® Paleo Expedition was provided by a grant from the Whitten-Newman Foundation.
