What is Oklahoma Science Adventure?
Are you ready to explore Oklahoma forests, streams, ponds and fields in search of frogs, fish, insects and fossils? What does a field scientist do? Join us as we answer the question “What is science?” during this one-week science field experience.
Fourteen students from across Oklahoma will be selected to participate. We will spend most of our time outdoors, working with scientists on field research projects. In addition to excavating fossils and catching pond animals, we will take night hikes, go canoeing and build leadership and teamwork skills. The week will conclude with an overnight stay at the museum where we will work in research labs to further study the fossils and specimens that we encountered in the field.
Throughout the program we will document our experiences through written and digital journals, giving you an opportunity to use a variety of technologies to share your experiences and research projects.
Selection: Students are selected to create a team that is varied and creative. Selection criteria include:
- Interest and enthusiasm in science (written short answer responses)
- Teacher recommendation
- Opportunities to experience science
- Location of school and home
- Group interview
- Potential phone interview
