To ensure your inquiry is handled safely and efficiently, the Sam Noble Museum asks that requests for object identification be submitted via email to: ID.samnoblemuseum@ou.edu.
To help with the identification of your object, please provide the following:
- Any information that you have about the object that you wish to have identified (i.e. location where it was acquired)
- Clear, still images (jpeg or png files ONLY) taken from multiple angles that include a ruler or common item to illustrate the size and scale of the object. For security purposes, we can only review jpeg and png images. Files shared outside of these accepted formats will not be reviewed.
- Your name and contact information
Response time to inquiries may take as long as two weeks. The Sam Noble Museum provides object identification as a service to the public with the intent being to enhance people’s understanding of the natural world. Our assessments are never intended to authenticate objects for the purpose of sale or monetary gain of any kind. The Sam Noble Museum does not provide appraisals or suggest valuations of objects, nor does the museum purchase objects or specimens from the public. Thank you!
