Family Programs. Fun for all ages!

Family programs are designed for children and their family adults to investigate the wonderful world of science together. 

Don't miss out! Space is limited and advanced registration is required. Please pay and register online or contact the education department by calling (405) 325-1008. Participants are required to bring any forms sent via confirmation email on or before the first day of the program. All cancellations must be received 10 business days prior to the start of the program for a refund or transfer to another program.

Spring 2018 Programming

Registration opens Nov. 13 for members; Nov. 27 for non-members

Creature Creations
Saturday, Feb. 24, 10 a.m. to noon

What would a painting created by a bird look like? How could an Apatosaurus reach the paper to draw a portrait? Capture the wonder of the wild as we explore silly ways to make art like the animals do. We’ll get inspiration from exploring the amazing animals in our museum galleries and investigate creative art techniques. This event is for children 5 and up with an adult.

Prices include one adult and one child. Members $20; non-members $30

Each additional person: Members $10; non-members $15

Deadline to register is Feb. 14.

Family Invertebrate Fossil Field Trip
Friday, April 20, 6 to 7 p.m., and Saturday, April 21, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Join invertebrate paleontology curator Steve Westrop, Ph.D., for an exciting journey into Oklahoma’s Paleozoic past. Explore life in Oklahoma’s ancient oceans on Friday evening with a close-up look at some of the museum’s finest invertebrate specimens. On Saturday morning, we will depart from the museum at 9 a.m. and travel in university vans to the site, where you will find a variety of marine fossils that you can take home. Bring a sack lunch, snacks, comfortable shoes and plenty of water. This field trip is for children 7 and up with an adult.

Prices include one adult and one child. Members $90; non-members $110

Each additional person: Members $45; non-members $55

Frog Talk
Friday, June 22, 7 to 9 p.m.

Come discover the language of frogs with your family! We’ll start our evening off at the museum learning about frog calls, habitats and identification. Then we’ll caravan to a local park to experience the night life of Oklahoma frogs.

A Night with Megalodon
Friday, July 13, 6 to 8 p.m.                                         

Dive into a night of fun with the biggest sharks in history! Explore monsters of the deep, play games and find out why Megalodon ruled the ocean. We will finish the night with a special exploration of our new temporary exhibit “Megalodon: Largest Shark That Ever Lived.”

A Night with Bats
Friday, July 27, 8 to 10 p.m.

What can you discover in the dark? Join us as we explore the amazing life of bats and other nocturnal critters! Bring your blanket and sense of adventure. After a short exploration at the museum, we will travel by caravan to a local park to encounter high-flying mammals and more!
