Excavations Museum Store
Museum store volunteers help find treasures and mementos of their visits. They answer questions about products, help restock merchandise and learn about gift shop operations.
Requirements: Standing and interacting positively with the public. Volunteer a minimum of one 3.5 hour shift per week.
Hours needed: 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday and/or Thursday
Special Events
The museum hosts and participates in community events throughout the year. Holiday Happening, Science in Action & Object ID Day and Spooktacular are just a few of the many events the Sam Noble Museum participates in yearly. Special events volunteers do everything from walking in parades to staffing craft tables.
Requirements: No special training beyond the new volunteer training is needed. Volunteer a minimum of three events per year
Hours needed: Shifts vary due to when events are scheduled.
Docents in the Museum
Docents inspire and inform museum visitors by interpreting galleries and artifacts. Docents interact with families, adults and school children of all ages and backgrounds.
Discovery Room
The Discovery Room is a hands-on learning space that features natural history content and active learning techniques to engage children and families. Docents play to teach using a simulated fossil excavation, tabletop games, discovery drawers, live animals and more.
Requirements: No special training beyond the new volunteer training is needed. Volunteer a minimum of one shift per month
Hours needed:
Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. or 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Sunday 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Hall of Ancient Life
The Hall of Ancient Life takes visitors on a trip through 4.6 billion years of the Earth’s history to learn about geology and fossilized plants and animals. Docents interpret specimens and dioramas throughout the gallery and provide thought-provoking demonstrations at the gallery cart.
Requirements: Shadow current docent for six weeks. Standing and interacting positively with the public. Volunteer a minimum of one 3.5 hour shift per month.

Wednesdays 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. or 1 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Thursdays 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Fridays 1 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Saturdays 12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Sundays 12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Hall of Natural Wonders
The Hall of Natural Wonders introduces visitors to the diversity of Oklahoma’s ecosystems. Docents interpret immersive dioramas filled with Oklahoma’s natural landscapes. The interactive gallery carts provide visitors with hands-on learning opportunities.

Hall of the People of Oklahoma
The Hall of the People of Oklahoma traces the 30,000-year history of the Native people of the state. Exhibits begin with the earliest archaeological evidence of humans in Oklahoma and travel through time to an examination of what it means to be Native American in Oklahoma today. Docents help visitors understand practical and cultural significance of artifacts.
